Cranston’s Thirsty Beaver “Hometown Hub & Grub”

The Thirsty Beaver needs no introduction.

Since the day it opened its doors, it has been the place to go for people who want to be at the hub of the action, consume good, reasonably priced drinks and enjoy great grub.

There’s always something going on at 288 Atwood Ave. Karaoke and Trivia nights, $3 beer and $8 martini nights, this month’s Cinco de Mayo celebration...the place is a hub of activity.

Music is blaring, large parties talk above it, the long bar is filled, and people of all ages are having a good time.

We go for the food.

You have got to try their hot-to-the-table crinkly onion strings and French fries.

They have the usual appetizers and foods you would expect to find at a popular “dive bar.”

Thirsty Beaver is full of surprises. Pierogis, beer-battered cauliflower, and other innovative appetizers join the list of chicken wings, pizzas and burgers.

If you are a meatloaf lover, you must try the “Loafin’ Around,” a tasty serving of meatloaf wrapped in bacon with melted cheddar cheese, onion strings, and bourbon sauce in a hoagy roll ($15).

They also serve full meals of chicken, fish, pasta, and meatloaf over waffles ($15-18).

Joyce had heard good things about their Reuben but was distracted by a specialty Garlic Gourmet Pizza ($14).

The large crispy pizza was loaded with roasted garlic puree, mozzarella cheese, slow roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, and beneath the mozzarella, a layer of blue cheese. She saved a few slices for the next day.

Thirsty Beaver (Sometimes referred to as “The Hungry Beaver” have expanded recently to Westerly, Smithfield and North Kingstown.

Bring your appetite. Ear plugs might help, too.
