The state champion Cranston Western 10-U and 11-U teams were busy in their regional tournaments this past week as the summer season winds down.

The 11’s fell in their regional tournament to wrap up the season. CWLL lost to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The team’s best performance came against New Jersey in a tough 4-1 decision. NJ would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and CWLL was unable to close the gap. Aydenn Reyes knocked in the team’s lone run in the fifth inning while also pitching three innings and allowing no runs, no hits and striking out five batters.

The 10’s are still in the thick of their tournament which is once again being held up at the CWLL complex on Hope Road.

CWLL would open things with a bang by cruising to a 10-3 win over Vermont. Kameron Monahan had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI while Maximus Conte went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Tommy Glasgow, Jaxson Pineda, Nicholas Ruggieri, Will Moretta and Matthew Beverly also knocked in runs.

Monahan pitched 3 2/3 innings on the mound and finished with five strikeouts. Conte tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief and picked up a strikeout.

Connecticut rolled to an 18-1 decision the following game to hand CWLL its first loss of the tournament. The Connecticut bats took off with a four-run first inning and never looked back as they wrapped up the win in four innings.

John Durante knocked in CWLL’s one run in the first inning.

The 10’s took on Massachusetts on Wednesday night but the results were not available at press time. The round robin tournament will wrap up on Thursday when CWLL faces New Hampshire.
