Cranston Western, East take home championships

By ALEX SPONSELLER The Cranston Western and Cranston East Little League All-Stars had a busy weekend, as all three CWLL squads competed for District I championships, as well as two clubs from CELL.

The CWLL 10’s and 11’s were able to get wins over Johnston and Cranston East, respectively, while North Providence topped the 12’s to end their nine-year reign as District I champs.

The 10’s would earn a 6-5 walk off win in the bottom of the sixth against cross town rival East.

Despite trailing 5-1 heading into the fifth inning, CWLL would catch fire and score five unanswered runs in the final two innings.

Nick Tocco, Dylan Phillips, Macin Galligan, Shamus McConnell and Kyle Levin scored runs for CWLL in the win.

CWLL scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but the East bats took off in the second when they scored four runs. East would follow that up with another run in the third to make it 5-1.

Eli Ozbek, Daniel Mahoney, Joseph Salimeno and Drew Barron all scored runs for East in the loss.

The CWLL 11’s scored early and often to put the pressure on Johnston from the get-go. CWLL went on to take home the 12-3 victory.

Lucas Santo and Nathan Izzi would score three runs for CWLL, while Aidyn Pizzuti and Joshua Albizu each added a pair of runs each. Luke Boscia and Seamus Graziosa also added runs in the victory for CWLL.

The 12’s squared off against North Providence on Sunday night and would fall 6-3 to force the deciding game on Monday evening on the road. North Providence’s pitching would stay sharp and close out the 3-0 victory.

The CELL juniors division went on to pick up a 6-2 win over Johnston.

Members of the CWLL 10’s that won the District I title include: Dylan Phillips, Casey Carbone, Macin Galligan, Damian Minyetti, Zach Riker, Nick Tocco, Isaiah Nyahkoon, Tyler Nani, Kyle Levin, Ashton Pelagalli, Dante Harpin, Shamus McConnell, Bradley Wayland and Thomas Casali.

Members of the CELL juniors District champs include: Ethan Antin, Jonathan Antin, Macauley Ash, Corey Blanchette, Cameron Boulanger, Jovaniel Cruz, Miles D'Arconte, Antonio Defusco, Allen Espinal, Joshua Smith, Zach Smith, Bobby Stevens, Ethan Torres and Aaron Vega.

Members of the CWLL 11’s included: Luca Albino, Joshua Albizu, Luke Boscia, Nicolas Conte, Seamus Graziosa, Nathan Izzi, Matthew Marcello, Max Muschiano, Joseph Nunez, Aidyn Pizzuti, Marco Salvatore, Lucas Santo and Andrew Schiappa.
