The Cranston West baseball team’s state title defense is underway, and the Falcons have already gotten the season off to a strong start.

West is 2-0 in its two Division I league games so far, defeating Toll Gate 5-4 on April 2, then defeating Barrington 11-5 two days later.

Against the Titans, West trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh before Joe Nicolace tied the game on an RBI single and Bryan Stetson walked with the bases loaded to bring in the game-winning run.

Rich Reo started the game on the mound for the Falcons and had an no-hitter through five innings before the Titans got to him for three runs in the sixth. Stetson pitched the seventh inning, and was credited with the win.

Offensively, catcher Garrett Demers led the way with a home run, and West piled up seven total hits.

In the Barrington game, the Falcons had 12 hits and scored eight runs in the fourth inning to blow open a 3-1 game. Nicolace started the game on the hill and was replaced by Matt Rousseau in the sixth.

The Falcons were scheduled to play their third game of the season on Tuesday against Pilgrim, with the results unavailable at press time. West will host 1-1 East Providence on Thursday at 4 p.m.
