By ALEX SPONSELLER The Cranston East boys soccer team fell in the Division II Quarterfinals 3-0 to East Greenwich on Monday evening at East Greenwich.

The Avengers would get a goal from Stephen Timperely less than 14 minutes into the action to take a quick 1-0 advantage and would carry the lead into the halftime break. East Greenwich added two insurance goals in the second half to secure the win.

The East defense played well throughout much of the second half but would surrender its second goal with 11:10 remaining on a goal from Andrew Mega. The Avengers’ third score came with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation on another goal from Timperely, who netted the score on a corner kick. Mega, Timperely and Olin Thompson all added assists in the win for East Greenwich.

Cranston East goalie David White recorded 12 stops in net while Carter Andrews stopped four shots for the Avengers.

The Bolts finish their season with a 4-1-4 league record. Monday’s loss was their first at home in two seasons.

The Cranston West club fell to Westerly 4-3 in its quarterfinals matchup on Monday.

The Falcons jumped out to a 2-1 lead at halftime, but Westerly would surge for three goals in the second half to pull ahead and secure the victory.

The Falcons got goals from Chris Cavallaro, Jake Morais and Mike Paquette.

Westerly and East Greenwich squared off in Wednesday’s semifinals, but the results were not available at press time.

East and West squared off last week in their season finales and walked away with a 1-1 draw, which gave East the City Cup Championship thanks to a victory earlier in the season.

Dylan Zarone put West on the board with a goal in the first half, but Mario Meletz would knot things at 1-1 in the second. Neither club could net a game-winner in the final minutes of action.

White finished with 11 saves for East while Matt Cataldi recorded 12 for West. Ben Mariorenzi also chipped in a pair of saves for the Falcons.
