The Rhode Island Interscholastic League held its cross country class championships last weekend at Ponaganset and a handful of locals shined as they gear up for this week’s state championship race.
Here is a look at some of the results from the day:

BOYS
West was led by Aidan Gosselin, who placed 21st overall. Cohen Brinker led East by finishing 25th. Matt Petit placed 30th overall for the Falcons as well.
East’s Nathaniel Brennick placed 37th, followed by teammate Levi Soch in 38th. Also reaching the top 50 for East were Nathan Gong (42nd) and Jaiden Ferrara (46th), while West’s Luca Talamo placed 49th.
La Salle’s Marshall Vernon took first place, beating Bishop Hendricken’s Colby Flynn by 16 seconds.
Hendricken’s BJ Kerachsky placed fifth while teammate Jack Moretta took sixth. Hendricken’s Emmitt Rattey placed eighth, followed by teammate Brayden Seraichyk in ninth.
Toll Gate’s John Maynard took home an 11th place finish, followed by Hendricken’s Oliver Redmond in 12th and Toll Gate’s Joshua Maynard in 13th. Tyler Boudreau led Pilgrim by taking home 16th place, while Fred Russell ran to 18th for Hendricken.
Pilgrim’s Miles Zuniga finished 33rd, followed by teammates Jacoby Schmidt in 34th and Kyle Gendice in 36th. Toll Gate’s Ryan Brady placed 39th while Pilgrim’s Liam Holmes took 40th. Jake Andersen placed 45th for the Titans.
Hendricken rolled to first place as a team with 30 points while second-place La Salle finished with 64. Pilgrim took fifth place, followed by Toll Gate in sixth, East in seventh and West in eighth.

GIRLS
Lilliana Prendergast led West by finishing in 19th while East’s Jessica Chin took 20th. West’s Kristen Fontaine placed 22nd overall. East’s Brooke Sloan took home 30th as well. West’s Annelisa Joyce placed 50th overall for the Falcons.
Pilgrim senior Keaney Bayha took home first place with a time of 18:23:56, beating North Kingstown’s Abbie Tighe by nearly 28 seconds. Bayha was the only girl runner to beat the 18:30 mark between all the classes.
Mea Ayotte led Toll Gate with a 15th place finish, followed by Pilgrim’s Juliana Kavanagh in 18th. Anna O’Donnell wrapped up 24th for the Titans.
Pilgrim’s Tiffany Blanco placed 37th, followed by teammate Lia Wasilewski in 39th. Toll Gate’s Arianna Aunchman placed 47th to crack the top 50.
La Salle Academy took first place as a team, narrowly edging NK and Cumberland, who placed second and third, respectively. Pilgrim took fifth place, followed by West in seventh and Toll Gate eighth.
