East's class of '74 answers call to 'pay it forward'

Posted

Earlier this spring, the Cranston High School East class of 2020 made the decision to use some of its class funds, which had been designated for their senior prom, to instead purchase lunch for the health care workers at the Scandanavian Home in Cranston.

They challenged other classes to “pay it forward,” and many have taken up the challenge, including the Cranston East classes of 1986 and 1991. The challenge is even being met by classes beyond Cranston East, and beyond the city of Cranston.

Now, Cranston East’s class of 1974 has taken up the challenge and has established a GoFundMe in order to honor the class of 2020 with a goal of making a donation in their name to the Comprehensive Community Action Program in Cranston. The goal is to raise at least $1,000 on the crowdfunding site.

“We know there are many people who want the class of 2020 to have some special experience for their ‘unusual’ senior year,” said Donna DiMichele, a member of the East class of 1974. “The class of 1974 hopes that our gesture will help the class of 2020 know that they matter and are honored.”

Those interested in donating to the fund benefiting CCAP can use the GoFundMe link for the “Honoring CHSE Class of 2020” page, which will be open until June 1. The page can be found at gofundme.com/f/honoring-chse-class-of-2020?.
