Edgewood Garden Club decks the 'Hall' with garland

Posted

As the oldest library in Cranston, it is only fitting that the William Hall branch gets a special display of holiday love and attention. And, it is through the kindness and generosity of the Edgewood Garden Club members.

"The Edgewood Garden Club puts up decorations each year. They have a long history with the library. They hold meetings at the library and they planted the wonderful sensory garden by our back entrance." said Branch Librarian, Robin Nyzio

The Garden Club members treated the library to decorations inside and outside the building.

" Pine garland, wreaths, red and green ornaments and ribbons were used to frame the main door and trim lampposts at the front and back entrances. Inside, festive garland was hung from the circulation desk and several urns were placed on shelves in the main reading room. The urns are filled with greens and both the urns and garland are decked with royal blue, pale blue, bronze, and gold ornaments and gold ribbons. The mantle in the downstairs Program Room has a garland adorned with silver and white ornaments to match the marble fireplace surround and decorative white birch logs. Synthetic materials were used inside and some of the urns’ branches were recycled from a donated Christmas tree," said Katheen Duffy, from Edgewood Garden Club.

The new decorating scheme was designed by members Paul Nunes and Mary Jo Hines.

"Since it was established in 1933, the club has beautified the library grounds by planting various trees, shrubs and flowering bulbs. For several decades it has decorated the building’s exterior and interior after Thanksgiving with greenery and seasonal trimmings," said Duffy.

William Hall library is located at 1825 Broad Street, Cranston.
