The Cranston West wrestling team is off to a nice start this winter and took first place at the South County Invitational. This is the second straight year the Falcons took first place in this 23-team event, as they won with a score of 217.5

Cam Davis took first place at 120 pounds while Baker Kattan finished second at 138 pounds for the Falcons. Luke Montefusco finished second at 152 pounds while teammate Andrew Pappas took second at 160.

Andrew Alchihed also finished second for West in the 220-pound bracket, while Caden Bruno finished third at 182 pounds. Vincent Merlino finished third at 195 for West. Dylan Browry finished fifth at 113 pounds while Sam Naifeh finished sixth at 145.

Xander Polofsky finished seventh at 170 pounds while Zach Jean Phillipe finished eighth at 126 pounds.

Here are some other locals that had big outings:

Bishop Hendricken finished fourth place as a unit followed by Toll Gate in ninth.

Mikhail Hulkow took first for Hendricken at 106 pounds.

Toll Gate’s Jack Sabatelli finished second at 106 pounds while Hendricken’s Seth McGrew finished second at 120 pounds. Tyrisse Volmar finished third at 285 for Toll Gate.

Hendricken’s Colby Vital finished third at 145 pounds followed by teammate Alex Elevado in seventh and Toll Gate’s Kason Wirtz eighth.

Matthew Pappas finished fifth for Hendricken at 152 pounds. Toll Gate’s Landon Mahar finished fifth at 132 pounds, beating Hendricken’s Braydon Wilding who took sixth.

Ben Denoncour finished fifth at 138 pounds while Michael Camarena finished sixth at 195 for the Hawks.

Marcos Ramirez finished seventh at 120 pounds for Toll Gate while Hendricken’s Logan Ross finished seventh at 138 pounds. Lincoln Tiernan placed seventh at 182 pounds for the Hawks
