Stanley F. French, age 83, of Cranston, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Edith (Ormerod) French, to whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Cranston on April 5, 1941, he was raised by his grandmother, the late Emily Hallstead, and went onto become a RIPTA Bus Driver for 25 years prior to his retirement in 2010. He was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union #618 for retired Bus Drivers.
Stanley had a heart of gold; while driving the bus, he always extended his hands to those less fortunate than him. He loved to learn about trains and enjoyed reading about the history of Rhode Island. His soft nature was loved by those around him, he was always making jokes and would do anything to put a smile on someone’s face. His most cherished time, however, was spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cats “Ma” and “Fella.”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two loving children, Kenneth French and his wife Uniline Jordan, and Andrea Chase and her husband Richard; adored grandchildren, Ashley French Herrarte and her husband Artistides, Anastasia Jimmis, and Carter Jimmis; and cherished great-grandchildren, Alijah, Alexander, and Aries. He was the great-grandfather of the late Alexa and Ayla Herrarte.
His visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 10:00-12:00PM followed by a service at 12:00PM in the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick.
