We've asked a lot from Rhode Islanders over the last ten months. Today, I have one more ask: please sign up to get tested this week and next week. Getting tested is one of the simplest, most effective ways you can protect your household from COVID-19. And over the last month, we’ve made testing easier than ever. Everyone in Rhode Island can sign up for a free test at portal.ri.gov.[r20.rs6.net] It doesn’t matter if you have symptoms or not, it doesn’t matter if you’re a student or teacher, it doesn’t matter where you work or what community you live in – everyone can go to that one website, and every test scheduled through that site is free. We’ve added a lot of capacity, so there are many open slots every day--including same-day appointments at some sites.
In addition to getting tested before and after Christmas, please make sure that you are following the latest health guidelines [r20.rs6.net]. The name of the game now is staying with your household. You can go to dinner, you can go shopping, you can go to the movie theater – but you need to do it with the people you live with, and you need to wear a mask.
Please get tested early and often and stay with your household. I know it's not easy, but these steps are necessary to stay ahead of the virus and keep it from spreading to our households.
