Garden City School continues tradition of candy donating

Posted

Inside the lobby of Garden City Elementary School is a trash can decorated to look like a monster. However, it is a friendly monster, who goes by the name of Fred.

All Fred feeds upon is candy that is being donated to Operation Made, an organization that is working with RI Blue Star Moms and Operation Holiday Cheer to collect candy to send in care packages to RI Service men and women stationed outside of RI and abroad.

This was a record setting year, with 149 pounds of candy collected.

Michaela Pizzuti and Danielle Parillo, executive board members of the Garden City PTO took the candy and several students to Operation Made in Warwick.

Nicole from Operation Made told Parillo and Pizzuti that this is Operation Made's fourth year working with RI Blue Star Moms. The goal for this year is to make up 500 care packages for troops.

Non chocolate candy will go in the care packages and the chocolate candy donated will go in the Military Lounge at the airport as well as to the National Guard.

Which will be distributed during the holiday season to Military Families and Kids.

Operation Made posted on their FB page that this donation is "going to bring lots of smiles to troops all over the world!"

"I had a lot of fun organizing this donation drive and am proud to have been a part of this.  My son Robert (1st grade) told me as we were leaving Operation Made last night  'That was fun, I really like Operation Made and I hope they can make up 500 care packages for our soldiers'," Pizzuti said.
