Gas prices up 6 cents in past month

Rhode Island’s average gas price is up three cents from last week, averaging $2.83 per gallon. Monday’s price is 6 cents higher than a month ago and 91 cents higher than May 3, 2020. Rhode Island’s average gas price is 7 cents lower than the national average.

“While we saw little price fluctuation at the pump in April, we’re likely to see much larger increases as demand for gasoline begins to increase, especially as Memorial Day and the busy summer travel season approaches,” “Both demand and supply have steadily increased over the last several weeks,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s May 3 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 2 cents higher than last week, averaging $2.90 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 3 cents higher than a month ago, and $1.12 higher than this day last year.
