George A. Barker

George A. Barker, Jr., 99, of Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on October 2, 2022. He was born in Providence, RI in 1923. He proudly served as a B-24 pilot in WWII flying 17 combat missions. He was recalled to service during the Korean War, where he was stationed in England for three years. George continued his military service in the USAF Reserves and retired after twenty years at the rank of Major.

Between wars, he married the love of his life Shirley (Casey) Barker, who passed suddenly in 1984. Shirley was a highly respected Registered Nurse at Kent County Hospital. George had a successful career as a cartographer for the Defense Mapping Agency.

George had two loves in later life, his family and food. He always expressed pride in his family. For many years, he was a frequent visitor to the Warwick Senior Center for lunchtime meals and happily enjoyed trips to local restaurants for his favorite dinners with his family.

George is survived by three children, Alan Barker (Janet DeLeo), Craig Barker (Susan), and Sally Butler (Jesse). He is survived by five grandchildren: Dylan Barker, Matthew Barker, Hayley Barker, Casey Butler, and Jesse Butler, Jr.

He will be buried at the R.I. Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. His funeral and burial will be private.
