The West girls outdoor track team hit the ground running in the spring and would go on to be one of the top units in the state.
The Falcons cruised to a 12-1 record in the regular schedule and then would shock the state by winning its first ever Class A Championship. Ailani Sutherland won both the 100 and 200 dash for West. The Falcons relay team of Maddie Alves, Mikaya Parente, Sutherland and Lindsey Hobin won the 400. Parente also won the long jump for the Falcons, while teammate Juliana Bucci finished first in the discus.
Although the Falcons were not able to win the team state championship, multiple girls would win individual state titles including Sutherland, while the 400 relay team broke the state record in a first-place finish.
Unfortunately for the rest of the state, the Falcons will not be going anywhere as much of the same core, including Sutherland, will be returning in 2022.
Best of the rest: West softball, West basketball, East basketball
