Give me some chocolate and fill my tank

New Year’s Eve went off without a hitch.  It was a quiet introduction to 2022 and the actual holiday DAY was quiet and low key.  While watching the entire 2013 season of Below Deck, additional New Year’s resolutions came to mind.

Like many people, I love chocolate. My hyper nature devours it in two bites, leaving my mouth only briefly satisfied.  Hershey kisses are a favorite, as are peanut M&Ms, but the extent of my gratification has been short lived. I vow to eat such delicacies more slowly, gently rolling them around in my mouth, letting the chocolate dissolve little by little, thus extending the pleasure.  Oh!  It is going to be a delightfully delicious new year!

One bad habit I have gotten into is texting my family while we are all in the same house.  My son, Steven, will text “I’m hungry, what is for supper?” and I will text back “Dad is grilling steaks in about an hour.” Hubby and I even text each other from opposite ends of the house, something which I excuse by thinking that way I don’t have to yell, but in reality it is easier to text than it is to get up off the couch to ask.  In 2022, I will make an effort to actually talk to people in person when we are in the same building.  This goes for colleagues at work, whom I text with questions rather than get up from my desk and go talk to them in person.  Gone will be using the cell phone as a communication device but choosing the personal touch instead.  This will not only get me up and active walking towards the person with whom I want to communicate, (thus better for my physical health), but it will also be more personal, thus better for my mental health.  Yes, by talking instead of texting, I will be healthier and happier!

I will once again try to spend 2022 remembering birthdays and special occasions.  I always mean well, and say that I will do it, but in the hustle bustle of my life, the actual dates fall by the wayside and next thing I know, my son’s birthday was two weeks ago or my daughter’s wedding anniversary was last weekend.  This year, I will take the time to put the dates in my calendar…not the cardboard calendar that has hung on the wall in the kitchen for so many years, and towards which I no longer even glance, but to my on-line Microsoft calendar.  I will take extra time to put in a birthday reminder a week before the actual date so that there will be time to pick out an amazingly humorous and sentimental card which will warm their hearts when received.   Oh!  My friends and relatives will be happy with my response to their special days in this coming year.

Another problematic issue is letting my gas tank get so low that refilling it becomes an issue.  It never fails; the light comes on indicating low fuel.  Rationalizing that the light comes on before it is REALLY empty; I figure I have ten or so miles to drive before it REALLY runs out of gas.  Where I work is only three miles from where I live, so even though the light is on, it can still make it back and forth a few days before I REALLY have to fill it.  Then, on the one day I am running a little late and have to drive to Providence for a meeting, the low fuel light taunts me.  Knowing I have been pressing my luck for days, I curse and must find a gas station and hurriedly throw ten dollars or so in the gas tank.  Adding this small amount of gas guarantees the red light will soon be mocking me again and it has been a vicious cycle.  My resolution for 2022 is to fill the tank when it is convenient shortly after the light comes on.

I am SO looking forward to 2022!
