Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, BankRI partner to offer virtual ‘Hope Bus’ visits

The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation and Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) will partner to offer virtual visits aboard the organization’s “Hope Bus” in August and September. From the comfort and safety of home, members of the community seeking services or that have questions related to breast cancer can connect directly with a Gloria Gemma team member.

The dates for the virtual “Hope Bus” are Aug. 25 and Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, with visits held via Zoom. Those interested in scheduling a visit may email Maureen DiPiero at maureen@gloriagemma.org. Once confirmed, a private, secure access link will be provided.

“An unfortunate by-product of the pandemic has been the fact too many people, women and men alike, have put off health tests and screenings,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn. “The fact is no one should let anything get in the way of their well-being, whether that means making an appointment to see a physician or seeking the expertise of an organization like Gloria Gemma.”

While visiting the “Hope Bus” to consult with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, individuals will receive important information about programs and services available to those battling breast cancer, survivors of the disease, and their families. In Rhode Island, one out of seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime.

“Although the pandemic forced us to take the Hope Bus off the road, we knew we needed to continue the program virtually because of the impact it makes on the lives of others – and that’s exactly what we’ve been able to do thanks to great partners,” said Maureen DiPiero, the foundation’s community outreach and education manager. “Just like the actual bus, people hop on using a Zoom link and immediately receive education, support, and connect with other cancer patients and survivors. It can be very powerful.”
