Golf tournament raises funds for Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation

Posted

The inaugural golf tournament for the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation raised more than $22,000 to benefit character-building programs for youth in kindergarten through grade 12 in the community.

Pagano, a member of the Cranston Fire Department, was murdered outside of his child's birthday party on May 18, 2008.

Held at the Alpine Country Club on Aug. 13, 136 golfers participated with more than 200 guests in attendance at the award dinner.

"Our hope is to grow the Foundation to where we can make a significant impact on the community, the community that was so generous to our family in our time of need,” Adriana Pagano said in her opening remarks, on behalf of the Pagano family. “It is now time for us to pay it forward by supporting the children in our community with character-building programs that promote courage, confidence and character. These kids are our future heroes and leaders.”

Ed Kirby, head pro at the Alpine Country Club, awarded prizes to the first place foursome consisting of Rick Schofield, Howard Meyerson, Paul Fitzpatrick and Steve Stockman. Closest to Hole prize went to Anthony Casale (men) and Kim Teves (ladies). Winners of the Long Drive contest were John Pezzullo (men) and Paula McFarland (ladies).

The Cranston Firefighters Union 1363, Sports Illustrated/Golf Magazine, Chisholm, Chisholm & Fitzpatrick LLC, and Estner Chiropractic Centers sponsored the event. Inskip Warwick’s Auto Mall provided a BMW 328i and a Mini Cooper for hole-in one prizes, and a set of TaylorMade irons was provided by Golfers’ Warehouse.

The mission at the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation is to make charitable grants to individuals, groups or organizations that improve the quality of life for children, and foster character building and a strong foundation for their future. By funding programs in academics, athletics, music and wellness, the Foundation hopes to develop future heroes and leaders who will in turn do the same in their communities.
