Historic Park Theatre calls out for community support

Today, as I reach out to our Cranston community and residents of the great State of Rhode Island, a sense of urgency runs through my veins. Cranston’s Historic Park Theatre is not merely a structure; it's a repository of memories, a vessel of culture, and a testament to our shared community history. Generations before us have laughed, cried, and celebrated within its historic theatre walls. It's a space where dreams have been kindled, talents nurtured and friendships forged.

When news spread of the Park’s uncertain fate during the Covid-19 pandemic, I knew I had to find a way to protect it.

When my business partner and I took on this revival project we knew we were not just saving a historic venue; we were preserving a shared memory palace where generations had laughed, cried, and connected together.

Over the last 18 months, we have made great strides in reviving and reopening The Historic Park Theatre in spite of the challenges. Throughout the journey, stories emerged—of first dates at the theatre and of childhood memories painted across its walls. These narratives reinforced our mission and kindled an unbreakable bond among our team and our community. The Historic Park Theatre was not just bricks and mortar; it was the embodiment of our shared identity. The challenges we face are not insurmountable, but they demand a collective community response. We have the power to rally as a community, to ignite a passion for preservation, and to make a difference that will resonate for many years to come. Our historic gem, a cornerstone of our community, has been standing tall for 99 years and it’s going to take an effort from us all for it to thrive for 99 more.

The need for us to band together, to pool our resources, talents, and determination, has never been more evident.

In the spirit of unity, let us set aside our differences and focus on what binds us: our love for this community and the shared experiences it has provided us. I’m asking our supporters to help organize fundraisers, engage local artists and performers, and spread the word far and wide. Every dollar we raise, every volunteer hour, every conversation started—each of these actions brings us closer to the goal of protecting Cranston’s Historic Park Theatre.

Our community theatre belongs to our community, and its fate rests in our hands. The power of collective action is unmatched, and when we come together, we have the ability to create a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

So, let's rise to the occasion. Let's show the world what a tight-knit community can achieve when faced with a challenge. Let's preserve not just a building, but a piece of our identity, a source of pride, and a symbol of our unity. The journey ahead will not be easy, but it's a journey we must take together, for the Historic Park Theatre and for our Cranston community.

The Historic Park Theatre will be reopening our theatre doors to our Rhode Island community as we celebrate 99 years of arts, film, and entertainment during the weekend of Friday September 8th with The return of The Edwards Twins and Saturday September 9th for our 99 year anniversary bash.
