Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins announced this week that Cranston has been recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the top 50 communities in the country for families to live in 2023.

Cranston ranked 38th in the country based on the city’s affordability, walkability, and other factors. Fortune Magazine highlights Cranston as the best place to live in the state of Rhode Island. Fortune’s rankings were published in an online article on June 14th. Fortune’s Top 50 communities will also be published in the magazine’s upcoming print issue.

“We are thrilled to have been named as one of the best places in the country for families to call home,” said Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins.

Fortune Magazine evaluated nearly 1,900 cities, towns, suburbs, and villages across the country. Cranston, and other finalists, scored highly across five broad categories of education, aging resources, general wellness, financial health, and livability.

“Since taking office, I have made it a goal to continue improving our public spaces, like the new park in Knightsville, to meet the recreational and cultural needs of our population,” Mayor Ken Hopkins said.

“This award is indicative of Cranston’s constant focus on tackling quality-of-life issues while encouraging community engagement across our great city,” Mayor Ken Hopkins said. “It is an honor to be recognized as a model community where every resident can enjoy our great parks, restaurants, and other amenities that Cranston has to offer.”

Other factors that were weighed by Fortune Magazine editors included the quality of area public schools, graduation rates, nearby college affordability, cultural attractions, and employment opportunity.

“When a community like Cranston wins this type of accolade, it really reflects on our residents, our community organizations, and our local businesses – all of whom should be congratulated for contributing to this award,” Mayor Hopkins said.
