DUI

On Sept. 18 at about 8:43 p.m., Patrolman Patrick Gendrèau and several members of third watch patrol responded to the Road Runner Gas Station at 2862 Hartford Ave. for a report of a disturbance in progress. According to a witness statement, they had observed a male driver “pull in erratically” and said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.

The driver then “peeled out” of the gas station parking lot, and another witness statement said they observed him speeding into the Bishop Hill Tavern parking lot before almost striking another vehicle traveling on Bishop Hill Road.

That witness stated that the driver parked his vehicle outside the Bishop Hill Tavern, stumbled out of the car and ran up to the car he almost struck, banging on the driver’s window stating he was going to beat him up.

Patrolman Gendrèau got the driver consent to perform SFST’s. After which, the driver was taken into custody and taken back to the Johnston police headquarters, where he refused to provide a chemical test sample. He was taken into custody under a DUI and the Refusal to Submit Chemical Test charge.

He was arraigned and released on $2,000 personal recognizance and a  District Court date.

DUTY TO STOP IN ACCIDENTS

On Sept. 26 at about 2:25 p.m., Patrolman Merrick A. Cook responded to a report of a hit-and-run motor-vehicle collision with no injuries. Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2 were headed north in the area of 525 Killingly St. Vehicle 1 was operating in front of Vehicle 2. The driver of Vehicle 1 stated that she was stopped in traffic when her car was struck from behind by a white full size Ford Pickup truck bearing RI license plates.

She stated that she motioned to the driver of the truck to pull over to assess the damage and the driver of the truck told her to proceed to the Cumberland Farms where they could pull over.

She pulled her vehicle into the Cumberland Farms parking lot and saw the pickup truck turn right onto Traver Avenue, its driver looking in her direction, and then proceed east on Traver Avenue and out of view.

The driver of Vehicle 2 responded to police headquarters and acknowledged that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. He stated that after he struck Vehicle 1 he drove off without stopping.

He was subsequently charged with Duty to Stop in Accidents Resulting in Damage to Attended Vehicle and released with a summons to appear in 3rd District Court.

DRUG POSSESSION

On Sept. 29 at about 5:31 p.m., Patrolman Patrick Gendrèau observed a vehicle traveling northbound on George Waterman Road with no front registration plate and an unlawful install of windshield/window tint. He activated his police lights and initiated a motor-vehicle stop.

A Rhode Island DMV check revealed that the driver’s license had been suspended. Searches through court records later revealed that this was the driver’s fourth and/or subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, an old pill bottle revealed interior contents of 19 clear capsules that were not labeled and contained a white powder inside of each.

A Nark Il field test kit for Fentanyl/Heroin was conducted on one of the capsules and the test revealed a positive result for Fentanyl. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Johnston Police Headquarters.

The narcotics seized were taken to Johnston police headquarters and weighed, which revealed a total of 14 grams of Fentanyl.

The driver was remanded to the A.C.I. Women's Intake Center with a District Court date.
