Anne Scurria and Timothy Crowe starred in Paula Vogel’s “The Long Christmas Ride Home”, at Trinity Rep, directed by Oscar Eustis.

The West Bay Chorale presented a masterful “Mikado” starring Rhode Island artistic director Robert Cleasby as the Mikado.

Rhode Island jazzman Greg Abate was at Chan’s in Woonsocket. Singer/songwriter Mary Ann Rossoni showed her talents as an artist at the Narrows in Fall River.

“Swing!”, nominated for six Tony Awards, played the Providence Performing Arts Center.

The International Chowder Championships was held in Newport. Chef Frank Terranova of Johnston was a judge. Iggy’s and Johnny Angel’s Clam Shack of Warwick competed in the clam cake category.

Rose Weaver starred as Menopause Mama at the former Perishable Theatre in Providence.

We used to get Chinese takeout at Tong, 400 Warwick Ave., tucked in a small strip mall on the Cranston/Warwick line. The restaurant closed recently and now has a sparkling new tenant-Enerjy-serving delicious Mediterranean food.

Krispy Kreme came to Cranston, Sadly, they didn’t last long.

Theatre-by-the-Sea opened their summer season with a “cute and silly romantic comedy”, “I Love You, You’re perfect, Now Change”.

“Finding Nemo” was the hit animated feature of the summer.

Comedian Frank O’Donnell joined Theatre-by-the-sea to host the Late Night Cabaret at the Sea Horse Grill.

40 Years Ago

Peter, Paul and Mary were at Warwick Musical Theatre, followed by the Marshall Tucker Band. Other stars scheduled for the  “tent” included Tom Jones, Kool and the Gang, The Righteous Brothers, Paul Anka, Buddy Hackett, and Donne Warwick.

The Shrine Circus was at the Cranston Ice Rink.

J.P. McGraw starred in “Showboat” at Theatre-by-the-Sea.

Rose Weaver, Keith Jochim and Barbara Orson starred in “Tintypes” at Trinity Summer Theatre.

Robert Duvall starred in “Tender Mercies”, shown at the old Midland Mall Cinema. Christopher Reeve starred in “Superman III.

Remember Bentley’s near the airport? How about Jennie’s Dairy Freeze on West Shore Rd? Or the Mad Hatter in Warwick Plaza?

Healy’s Seafood on West Shore Rd. had Maine or native steamers for 79 cents a pound.

 Brown Summer Theatre did “My Fat Friend”.

Engelbert Humperdinck was at PPAC.

Mel Torme did a benefit for Trinity.
