Keane's reopens with BBQ take-out

Paul Padriac had a thriving business going during the time of the last Super Bowl.

Large orders were pouring out of his business, Keane’s Wood-Fired Catering, at 1850 Broad St. in the heart of Edgewood.

There was no gathering too large for the hard-working Cranstonian.

And then came the pandemic, and the order from on high that no more than five people may gather at one time and place.

That’s sudden death for caterers.

We are pleased to report that Paul and his wife are back, doing something they had hoped to add to their business in the future – offering BBQ for individuals, families and small groups.

We were there last Thursday, opening day for the reconfigured operation.

The barbecue grills were going out back, the small office had been converted into an approved take-out operation, and Keane’s was back in business.

Currently, they are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4-8 p.m. for pick-up.

We had sampled all of their items when we did a story about them in January, and we were anxious to add them to our take-out list.

We ordered the brisket sandwich ($16), perfectly cooked, tender and tasty with the addition of pickled beets and BBQ mustard. All sandwiches come with coleslaw, dressed greens, or potato salad. Padriac’s wife makes the potato salad, adding fresh dill.

Joyce ordered the coleslaw, also homemade, and we split, making for a wonderful meal.

We’ve already picked our menu for next week: Joyce is getting the Hanoi chicken sandwich (grilled chicken, chili mayo, pickled veggies, cilantro and scallions, $14), while I’m going for the smoked kielbasa sandwich with caraway sauerkraut and BBQ mustard ($13). We’ve added two special sides – jalapeno/cilantro coleslaw ($4) and honey cornbread ($3).

The pulled pork sandwich ($15) will be the following week, and then Joyce will get the chive and cheddar mac and cheese ($9), while I’ll try a pint of BBQ chili with pulled pork and brisket ($8).

There are a few other sides, like sweet potato salad, pickle, and kimchi, to enhance your dining experience.

Stop by and pick up a menu, go online at www.keaneswoodfired.com or call 437-6933 to place your order.
