Knightsville project receives additional funding

The Board of Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank has awarded Cranston with $300,000 for the redevelopment of Knightsville Park. The funds assist with enhancing ADA access to the park, concrete ramps, new pavement markings, signage and crosswalks.

“We are greatly appreciative to the RI Infrastructure Bank for this generous grant,” said Mayor Ken Hopkins in a Friday statement. “The Knightsville project is of great significance to the city and will be a great benefit to the neighbors and businesses of the village. The improvements, most notably the ADA access work, will help make the new park a community hub for all of Cranston.”

The city is one of six Rhode Island cities and towns to receive a portion of $2.5 million from the Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program (MIGP). The Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program was established to provide competitive grants to municipalities statewide to complete key infrastructure projects that accelerate affordable housing and economic development, with recipients required to provide a local match of at least 25 percent.

“We’re pleased to award $2.5 [million] in Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program funding to Pawtucket, East Providence, North Providence, East Greenwich, Lincoln and Cranston,” said Jeff Diehl, Executive Director and CEO of Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank. “From upgrading sewer and stormwater infrastructure around affordable housing developments, to building a new riverwalk, to athletic field improvements, to Main Street revitalization, these grants will help our municipal partners implement infrastructure solutions that improve quality of life and spark economic development.” (Herald photo)
