Navy veteran, chaplain and former Cranston state representative Robert Lancia offered prayers Monday morning at three war memorials in Coventry in observance of Memorial Day. The first of the observances, which included the laying of a wreath by Peter Wisnieski, commander of the Coventry Memorial VFW Post 9404, took place at the World War I memorial on Washington Street. Joining in the ceremony was Brian Mattias, who played taps following the firing of a rifle salute. Pictured with Lancia are Patrick Maguire, commandant of the Rhode Island Marine Corps League, and Jane Deptula also of the Marine Corps League. (Cranston Herald photos)
