Langevin, Cicilline named Grand Marshals of Gaspee Days Parade

Posted

In recognition of their accomplishments, The Gaspee Days Committee has named former Congressman James Langevin and Congressman David Cicilline grand marshals of this year’s Gaspee Days Parade.

“The Gaspee Days Committee felt it was important to recognize both Congressmen as they complete their time in Congress,” said Gaspee Days Committee Parade Chair Janet Russell. “Both have dedicated their work to improving the lives of Rhode Islanders.”

Langevin who completed his term in 2023 is a lifelong Warwick resident. Throughout his career in Congress, he supported and introduced measures to improve gun safety, protect our environment, address cybersecurity and increase federal funding for lifesaving research. He is a strong voice for people with disabilities, and he continues to work towards an America where all people are truly treated equally.

Congressman David N. Cicilline serves Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He announced he would leave Congress in June to become the president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation. Cicilline is a leader in Congress on issues of core American values, ensuring equitable access to economic opportunity, sustaining, and growing our manufacturing sector, promoting equality for all, protecting the rights of workers, and safeguarding the ability of older Americans to retire with dignity.

This parade season, the communities of Historic Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, Cranston, and many around the state of Rhode Island, will commemorate the 251st anniversary of the RI colonist revolting against Great Britain during the revolutionary era. The Gaspee Days Parade is the culmination of a month-long series of community events run by the all-volunteer Gaspee Days Committee to commemorate the burning of H.M.S. Gaspee in June of 1772. The parade, along with many other Gaspee Days activities bring together people from across several local communities including Warwick and Cranston, to celebrate their pride in our state’s place in history.

The parade steps off Saturday, June 10th at 10:00 a.m.  in Warwick and following Narragansett Parkway until it crosses the Pawtuxet River Bridge into Cranston.
