To the Editor:
I am writing to share my opinion on the proposed development of what will soon be known as “where Mulligan’s Island used to be.”
Even as Rhode Islanders continue to be obsessed with what used to be a landmark, I am equally excited about what’s to come. Costco is a great store and offers groceries and other needs at unbelievably affordable prices. I have traveled to Massachusetts countless times to shop at Costco, and I am thrilled that they will be so close. Given our current economic situation, we cannot forget how much this stands to benefit local shoppers, not just in Cranston, but all across Rhode Island.
Let’s not let this be another PawSox moment where a small group of angry people ruin it for the rest of us. Yes, I do want affordable groceries, and I want the good paying job pportunities for my neighbors, friends and family that have lost so much during this pandemic. In addition to the good-paying work, this will bring a needed tax boost for Cranston without having to ask us residents to shoulder even more of the burden.
We need to see more projects like this in Cranston. This one is right in front of us, so let’s make it happen!
