To the Editor:
This is an open letter to all the citizens of Cranston.
By now, or any day now, you will be receiving a letter from the tax assessor’s office regarding your home’s assessment value.
Please understand that this is not a tax increase, but it is a reflection of the current housing market in our city.
The real estate situation is a seller’s market right now. The inventory for homes in Cranston is low.
Every three years, the state requires all cities to do a reassessment on every house in the city. The City Council has not gotten a budget from the mayor yet for the upcoming year.
We do not anticipate a tax increase, but we will have to wait and see what he proposes.
Again, please understand this is an assessment of the value of your home, not a tax increase.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any councilperson or the assessor’s office directly.

Council President
