Lights of Hope to support fight against cancer

On Friday, April 29, join in with the American Cancer Society as it lights up Cranston with glowing tributes in support of the fight against cancer.

The event, Lights of Hope, is dedicated to honoring those who are fighting cancer, celebrating those who have survived the disease, and remembering those who have been lost.

The track at Bain Middle School will be lined with luminarias – bags personalized in a loved one’s honor and lit up with a glow stick – and participants will raise funds for the cancer society while walking the track. Survivors and caregivers will speak, and there will be light refreshments.

“When I was in my hospital room last April recovering from my bilateral mastectomy, it was important to take this picture, that hope starts with me,” said breast cancer survivor and Cranston resident Susan Adler. “I have been involved with Relay [For Life] since my first bout with breast cancer in 2006. As the Relay has changed over the years, the one thing that has not is fight against this horrible disease. The Lights of Hope event on April 29 will provide community members the special opportunity to give back and fight back.”

“The Lights of Hope Walk is a special event that allows a community of individuals who may not know each other to unite for one goal – to end the fight against cancer,” said Cranston cancer survivor Michele Giardina. “It celebrates survivors, honors those fighting and remembers those who lost their battle. It brings everyone a sense of hope, love, support and togetherness.”
