Posted

Rhode Island College fifth-year Lauren Macera (Cranston) and freshman Haylie Peacock (West Gardiner, Maine) were recognized for their respective performances in a pair of Anchorwomen wins in women’s tennis last week.

Macera was named the Little East Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. She went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles as RIC bested Curry, 9-0, on Sept. 5 and Bridgewater State on Sept. 7. For the season, she is 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at primarily No. 1 doubles.

Peacock was named the Little East Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week. She went 2-0 at both No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. Peacock is 3-0 at primarily No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles on the season.

Head Coach Adam Spring’s team is 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Little East.

Oliver named runner of week

Rhode Island College junior Haley Oliver (Coventry) was named the Little East Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance at the Trinity Invitational on Sept. 7.

Oliver finished sixth (19:49.60) over the 5k course among a field of 130 runners at Wickham Park on Saturday.

RIC finished 11th (11 teams) with a team score of 300.0. Connecticut College won the event with a team score of 45.0.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 (noon).

RIC volleyball falls to Westfield

Freshman outside hitter Olivia Rollinson (Coventry) totaled a career-high 13 kills as Rhode Island College suffered its first setback of the season in a 3-1 loss at Westfield State on Saturday afternoon.

Rollinson’s career afternoon was not enough to help the Anchorwomen past the Owls as the hosts were led by junior outside hitter Hanna Nihill’s (Chandler, Ariz.) 13 kills.

Owls’ first-year outside hitter Sydney Cummins (Nicholasville, Ky.) had herself a day, registering a career-high 12 kills to go along with 13 digs.

RIC sophomore setter Grace Luchka (North Scituate) nearly tallied the first double-double of her career with 14 assists and nine digs in just two sets.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston) also just missed a double-double with nine kills and a team-best 17 digs.
