Making better decisions

To the Editor,

Flaws are part of human frailty and I’m not going to take a stand without prefacing that I am not a human being without frailties or failures myself.

Captive to my own free will, I gladly admit I have made plenty of bad choices and in the future surely will continue to do things I regret.   Let’s not make deciding to settle in Warwick two decades ago be one of them.

I am not writing this not on behalf of any page or group - these are my feelings as a concerned citizen.

The difference between myself, a concerned citizen, whose son attended Warwick public school all his life graduating from Pilgrim HS back in 2019, and a Warwick School Dept. employee or an elected public official who transgresses, is I was not hired as an administrator or put in an impartial nonpolitical office by a majority vote to represent the interests of WPS students or their parents who are the hard working taxpayers of Warwick.

If someone can’t keep their own house in order, how can anyone else expect adequate representation from that individual they hired or voted into office?

The bigger picture here is what’s best for Warwick families who send their sons and daughters to public school in good faith.

Keep in mind the children of today are being demoralized watching their heroes acting less than heroic, honorable or lawful.

WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO “Be contrite.  Be that shining light and example.”

There is an educational opportunity here.

WHEN WE DO WRONG WE ARE TOLD TO SEEK FORGIVENESS FROM THOSE WE WRONGED. With humbleness, go into every classroom and pay penance by speaking to the evils of drunk driving.

Talk about respecting the police and remind everyone how through carelessness, someone or anyone could have been killed as a result of drunk driving.

Show everyone sincere remorse over a bad choice, express a desire to reform, and make better decisions next time.

Decisions can be as simplistic as leaving the car and calling an Uber to get home come to mind.

We all fail from time to time, and we can all work our way back from the depths of hell, come to terms with our personal demons, and be redeemed by the court of public opinion no matter what the issue and once again be a respected pillar within the community.
