Ann (Davis) McCaffrey, 87, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene J. McCaffrey, Jr., the former Mayor of Warwick. Born in Providence, she was the eldest daughter of the late F. Sheldon and Gertrude (Barrett) Davis.
Growing up in the Conimicut neighborhood of Warwick, Ann was a graduate of Gorton High School and Rhode Island College. She earned a Master of Arts degree in History from Providence College. Ann taught for many years as an elementary and secondary special education teacher in the Warwick Public Schools. She was a member of the RI Retired Teachers’ Association, General Nathanael Green- Pettaquamscutt Chapter, NSDAR, The General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the Squantum Association. She was a life-long communicant of St. Benedict Church.
She is survived by her children: Honorable Mary E. McCaffrey, Former Senate Majority leader Michael J. McCaffrey, Esq. and wife Deirdre, John T. McCaffrey, Esq. and wife Margaret, Eugene J. McCaffrey III, and William D. McCaffrey and wife Heather. She was Nannie to her adoring grandchildren Michael, Cailin, Brenna, Catherine, Deirdre, Brendan, Matthew, Luke and Elizabeth. She was the sister of Elizabeth D. Alfonso of North Kingstown and the late Gertrude C. Audet. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 9am from the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane Warwick. She will be laid to rest with her husband in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting hours Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Volunteers of Warwick Schools, 40 Asylum Rd., Warwick, RI 02886 will be appreciated.
