Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island’s annual fundraiser, “Festival of Meals,” will take place as a series of TV commercials showcasing how the organization helps homebound seniors live healthier, safer, and happier lives.
The commercials seek to help Meals on Wheels of RI raise $80,000 for its programming, which serves seniors and other eligible populations statewide, and which has continued to operate without disruption during the global pandemic.
“COVID-19 continues to present a challenging and changing public health environment, which this year, again, will not safely allow for us to hold our only annual fundraiser as a traditional, in-person event,” said Executive Director Meghan Grady. “But, we must still raise much-needed funds to ensure our work can continue as it has over the last year and a half and well into the future.”
In “MoreThanAMeal,” we see Meals on Wheels of RI delivery drivers arriving to greet their clients – just the first part of our daily program service.
“Suspenders” introduces us to Roland who, at age 80, lives with several health conditions that make him a fall risk and thus unable to safely leave the home on his own.
In “Someone to Talk to,” we meet 91-year-old Ethel, who was a member of our Capital City Café Program prior to the pandemic and greatly misses socializing over a nutritious meal.
And, in “Acorn,” we are introduced to Donna, who credits Meals on Wheels of RI with helping her to cope after the loss of her beloved seeing-eye dog.
“We are extremely grateful to our clients for sharing their stories so that we may continue to serve them and thousands of others who are at risk for food insecurity and social isolation – risks that have been amplified during the pandemic,” Grady said. “We are also preparing to meet an increasing need for our services as our state’s population ages. Donating to the Festival of Meals fundraiser this year will help us to assure tomorrow’s seniors that they too will be able to age healthily with independence in their own homes.”
