Memorial Day at Hope Highlands Middle School
Two centennial veterans invited to say Pledge of Allegiance
100 YEARS OF HONOR: Luis Giarrusso (left) stands beside possible cousin Domenic Giarrusso as they read the Pledge of Allegiance before the assembled students next to the events MC, Seventh Grade Teacher Michaela Horta. Mr. Domenic Giarrusso, and Mr. Louis Giarrusso, who are both 100 year old World War II veterans, joined together to read the Pledge of Allegiance to the entire student body. Having recently met for the first time, Luis and Domenic found out that they may actually be cousins. Domenic was a member of the Army Air Corps stationed in the Atlantic during WWII and Luis served in the infantry in Southeast Asia. The entire Student Body attended the ceremony, a total of about 350 students. (Photos by Steve Popiel)
ASSEMBLED IN REVERENCE: The entire student body of Hope Highlands Middle School attends the event to meet these two heroes.
BANDING TOGETHER: The Hope Highlands eighth-grade band performed at the ceremony to honor their esteemed guests and thank them for their visit.
