Nate Jones puts it all aside with 'Wait For Me'

Life can get pretty hectic sometimes. Some days can bring an exorbitant amount of stress, and finding time to relax and unwind is important.

Warwick singer-songwriter Nate Jones has put these feelings to music with “Wait For Me,” a hypnotic song that incorporates folk and country elements.

Jones initially wrote the song as a way to decompress from his busy life as a full-time musician. The words came to him because he was literally describing what he was doing with musical prose and diction.

“It’s a song about stepping back,” he said. “It’s about going dark on social media, turning your phone on airplane mode and gently saying to the world and yourself that it can all wait. It’s better to live in the moment than to chase future ones. The lyrics might mean different things to different people, but I don’t consider myself as truly having ‘written’ the song. I feel more so that the words came to me.”

He added: “So many messages come to us through songs and different artists have different words pop into their head when they play. This song was a different approach for me than sitting down and writing an intentional song. Sometimes I’ve written a poem about something and then I put music to it, or I hear melody in my head and develop a song around it.”

Sometimes to get out of a rut where things keep on piling up, you have to get creative. Jones did what he does best while facing an avalanche of work that needed to be organized, so he wrote the song to clear his head.

“This song actually came about one day last year when I was feeling overwhelmed from an influx of emails and messages, and just needed to step back from it all,” he said. “I went down into my home studio, my happy place. I started playing that opening guitar riff and 30 seconds into playing the words just popped into my head. I ended up writing some additional lyrics on the day of the official final recording, which is always fun to do because the pressure’s on. Hence, my going back to living in the moment. That’s what this song is about.”

The official release date for “Wait For Me” is March 28. There will be a show celebrating the song that night at The Mediator Stage, located at 50 Rounds Ave. in Providence.
