Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins spoke to a large crowd gathered inside the Johnston Indoor Recreation Center on Saturday. Many of the Ocean State’s top politicians gathered to celebrate a $1.1 million federal grant secured to “rehabilitate and restore” Johnston’s Youth Soccer Complex. Hopkins, a Johnston native and former youth sports coach in town, visited to show support for the project, and his good friend and ex-classmate Johnston Mayor Joseph M. Polisena. Before he took his turn at the lectern, Hopkins was seated with Gov. Dan McKee, Attorney General Peter Neronha, Rep. James Langevin, Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, and Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos. (Herald photo by Rory Schuler)
