FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Newport Ski Club will celebrate its 60th anniversary at 6:00 p.m. on April 11, 2015 at the Newport
Officers Club in Middletown, RI. Conceived in 1955 by engineers from NUWC (Naval Undersea
Warfare Center, formerly known as Naval Underwater Ordnance Station), the Newport Ski Club has
provided economical facilities for skiing in a cooperative environment for three generations of members.
The club offers bunkhouse-style sleeping quarters, shower facilities, a fire-placed living area and a
commercial kitchen in a club-owned lodge at the base of Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, Vermont. A
membership of up to 200 Rhode Islanders and neighbors maintain the building, its finances and an
operation for reservations, weekend meals and year-round social activity.
The 60th celebration will include dinner and dancing, a digital collection of current and historic photos
contributed by ski club members, along with a lighthearted awards ceremony. Founding members,
including several who are still very active in the club, are expected to attend. Tickets are $50 per person.
Reservations are required. For tickets, please contact Sue Cienki, 401-884-5258 or
cienki@sprintmail.com.
