Exercise! Exercise! Exercise!

Why should we exercise? It helps keep our heart healthy, protects against chronic disease, improves our mood and energy, can improve brain health and memory, helps our bones and muscles stay strong, and helps prevent falls.

Aerobics

Aerobic exercise provides cardiovascular conditioning. It increases heart rate and the body’s use of oxygen. It helps decrease the risk of heart disease, lowers blood pressure, increases HDL or “good” cholesterol, helps to better control blood sugar, and improves lung function, just to name a few benefits.

Chair Yoga

Tuesdays, 10 to 11 a.m.Fee: $2

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting. Some poses can also be done standing using a chair for support. It strengthens bones, reduces stress and helps alleviate aches and pains.

Tai Chi

Wednesdays, 10 to 11 a.m.Fee: $3

Even though Tai Chi is for people of all ages, because it’s a low-impact exercise, it especially benefits older adults. It has three main components – exercise, meditation and breathing. Research shows practicing Tai Chi can improve balance, stability and flexibility. Practiced regularly, it can help reduce pain, especially from knee osteoarthritis, back problems and fibromyalgia.
