Not a reason for violence

To the Editor,

Most of us are disgusted at the sight of a police officer strangling an unarmed black citizen while three other officers look on. Those officers are a disgrace to the uniform they wear. I believe the vast majority of law enforcement men and women agree with me.

In Minneapolis on July 15, 2017 Justine Damon called 9-1-1 to report a possible rape taking place. When police arrived she went to identify herself as the person making the call. Officer Mohamed Noor shot her dead as she approached. Ms. Damon was white; Officer Noor is black. It took 8 months to charge him with third degree homicide and two years to sentence him to 12 ½ years. There were no protests, peaceful or otherwise.

Those who set fires and break into stores to steal merchandise are not “protestors”. Please stop calling them that. They are rioters, arsonists and looters. The needless death of a black man caught on video may be the motivation to peacefully protest. It is not a reason for violence perpetrated against other innocent persons and society as a whole.

Agitators who come from outside the city and state where this tragic event happened or anywhere else, whether they are from antifa or the alt-right, are anarchists –nothing more, nothing less.
