Oak Lawn Elementary surprises principal on special day

Posted

Not many people are aware that May 1 is National Principal’s Day.

But the PTG at Oak Lawn Elementary School didn’t want to miss the opportunity to show how much they appreciate and respect their principal, Jim Zanfini.

“I was completely surprised today,” Zanfini said. “I started to notice something was going on when I was outside during morning arrival. All the children and teachers passing by me were wearing green and they were saying, ‘Enjoy your day, Mr. Zanfini.’”

Fourth-grader Justin Marino had a few simple words of respect for Zanfini.

“He’s a really fair, nice and kind principal,” Marino said.

Zanfini was touched by the show of appreciation.

“Today has been filled with excitement, well-wishes, cards and student drawings. It indeed was a special day that I very much appreciated,” he said.

Second-grade student Isabella Farina appreciates the work Zanfini does.

“Mr. Z. keeps us safe by using the cameras outside to make sure no bad guys get in the school,” she said.

John DelBonis, another fourth-grader said Zanfini is the “best principal he could ever think of” – and that he’s very funny.

And, in a happy coincident, Zanfini happened to be wearing a green shirt.
