Oakers win at states, Falcons take 7th

The RIIL Wrestling State Championships were held over the weekend and many locals made some noise on the big stage.

Coventry took first place as a team while Hendricken wrapped up fourth. Cranston West took home seventh place overall while Johnston placed 15th.

Bishop Hendricken’s Spencer Fine took first place at 170 pounds along with teammate Adolfo Betancur, who took home his second straight championship at heavyweight.

Luke Mead finished second at 195 pounds for the Hawks.

Hendricken’s Seth McGrew finished third at 106 pounds while Cranston West’s Cam Davis took third at 113 pounds. Hendricken’s Noah Sclama finished third at 152 pounds.

Johnston’s Logan Martins finished fourth at 113 pounds while Cranston East’s Eneas Castillo took fourth at 145. West’s Landon Giampietro finished fourth at 152 pounds, while teammate Preston Marchesseault took fourth at 160. Noah Polion finished fourth for West at 182 pounds.

Luke Montefusco took home a fifth-place finish for West at 145 pounds, while Toll Gate’s Tyler Hunter took fifth at 152. Hendricken’s Joseph Church placed fifth at 220. Johnston’s Xavier Thomas finished sixth at 126 pounds, while Hendricken’s Braeden Campbell finished sixth at 160 pounds for the Hawks.
