The Rhode Island Bocce League held its annual banquet on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Prata Society in Cranston. There were about 175 guys representing 24 teams from the North and South Divisions of the state. They had a full course meal provided by Ralph’s Catering.

The league started in 1935 and the present president is Jim Egcoff, who’s not Italian at all.

The night was full of stories and conversations between teammates and friends. Before desert was the issuing of about eight trophies and each team came forward for their awards.

The big trophy was for the winners of the entire state. This team was the Terminators from the Prata Society. They were managed by Gaetano Cozzi and their record was 61 wins and 5 losses (66 total games played). One of the best players and hitter is Gaetano Barbelli, who’s 89 years old. This man can hit a ball out of the way about 90 percent of the time.
