A Cranston Police officer was arrested last week on a charge of simple assault as a result of a use-of-force investigation, according to Rhode Island State Police.
Online court records show Andrew Leonard, 45, was released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a non-domestic no-contact order. An arraignment in Third Division District Court is scheduled for September.
State Police announced the arrest last week and said the investigation was conducted at the request of Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael Winquist. The investigation is said to have focused on an incident in late March.
Leonard is on paid suspension following the arrest.
