Old and new movies in the comfort of your home

With many movie theaters closing because of the coronavirus, and those remaining open cutting their capacities in half, your TV and computer are the next best thing … the ONLY thing.

Subscriptions to Netflix will surely rise as new movies are being added daily (32 last week). Some of the movies on Netflix are still in theaters, and many more have just left.

You can stream all episodes of “Game of Thrones” and other popular HBO series.

A number of free movie sharing sites are offering classic films, such as “Sunset Boulevard,” “Sabrina,” “Once Upon a Time in the West,” “Bull Durham” (for those sports fans who are in serious withdrawal) and the 1992 classic “Little Women.”

Managers of theaters that are still open are urging patrons to distance themselves, leaving empty seats in between other patients. Have you noticed that movie-goers always do that anyway?

Type in the name of a classic movie and your computer in many cases will play that for you, commercial free.

Now is great opportunity to take another look at the classics like “The Maltese Falcon,” “Citizen Kane” or even some vintage “Three Stooges” shorts.

Of course, there is always the Turner Classic Films network, with great films shown commercial free.

As a last resort, there are many channels showing old movies at all times of the day and night. We record them and play them back, zipping through the commercials.

Breaking news: Disney Plus has released “Frozen 2” early, which should keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours.
