PROPOSED ORDINANCE 10-20-01 IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 2.40.020 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CRANSTON, 2005, ENTITLED ‘MUNICIPAL COURT’ (Municipal Court Judges)

It is ordained by the City Council of the City of Cranston as follows:

Section 1. Chapter 2.40.020 (B) entitled “Appointment, Term and Qualifications of Judges of the Municipal Court” is hereby amended as follows:

The term of the appointment for the judges shall be two years, to begin (when the City Council appoints the first judge and to run concurrent with term of office for City Council Members. Thereafter, said judges shall be appointed the first Monday in January, and the term shall run concurrent with the term of office for City Council.) the first day of February, following the inauguration of the City Council. The Council President shall nominate judges. Nomination shall be referred to the Ordinance Committee for a hearing and each nominee shall submit a resume to the City Clerk at least ten days before the hearing. Upon receiving the recommendations of the Ordinance Committee, the full Council shall vote to confirm or not confirm each judicial nomination.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its final adoption.
