Pats wrap up season sweep over Titans

The Pilgrim boys volleyball team would wrap up the series sweep when it beat rival Toll Gate 3-0 (25-9/ 25-12/ 27-25) last week at home.

Pilgrim was led by senior Eli Kearns, who recorded 18 kills to go along with a pair of aces. Jack Eaton added 10 kills in the win for Pilgrim as well. Toll Gate was led by Tyler Carpenter with four kills and three aces while Austin Scotti racked up five kills, one ace and two blocks for the Titans.

Pilgrim beat Toll Gate 3-0 on the road earlier in the season in the teams’ first matchup, and Kearns was excited to get another win against his crosstown foe.

“Going into this game, we felt pretty confident about it. We were just trying to have fun and it was all high spirits. That definitely helped us, if we made a mistake we didn’t get too down on ourselves and we moved on. It’s good (to beat our rival), especially on our home court,” Kearns said.

The Pats and Titans enter the final week of their regular seasons and are looking to finish strong. The clubs have been going through rebuilding years this spring, each earning two wins on the season.

Kearns has become a key part of the Pilgrim roster over the past two years and he is looking forward to seeing if the team can grab one more victory before the regular season wraps up.

“It’s been a blast, I wish I started earlier. We’ve been really quiet in practices and this should definitely boost our confidence,” said Kearns.
