Join library partners this June for small business Saturdays – a series of workshops designed for adults and youth interested in exploring/starting their own small business. The next event will take place at Pawtucket Public Library (13 Summer St.) and will focus on banding/digital marketing for teens. On June 11, Cranston Public Library will host a marketing on a shoestring workshop at Central Library in the C-Lab. On June 18, Rochambeau Library (708 Hope St.) will have a workshop on becoming a pop-up market vendor. The series will end with a branding and trademarks basics workshop on June 25 at Providence Public Library (150 Empire St.). All events will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
There will be an art sale on June 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Arnold Conference Center Regan Building, 3 Regan Court at Eleanor Slater Hospital. There will be canvas art, paper art, art cards, painted plaques, coasters, jewelry, matted framed art and shell art. All sales benefit the artists of the Eleanor Slater Hospitals and students of the UCP Adaptive Arts Program.
Join Pilgrim High School on July 9 for an informal class reunion at the East Greenwich Veterans Firemen’s Hall. The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. and Ray Renzi will provide the music. Wolf Rock Caterers will provide a buffet ($35 per person). The class picture will cost $17. Checks can be made payable to PHS Class of 64 and individuals should respond by June 10. The Rhode Island chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is accepting registration for its summer 2022 virtual Family-to-Family course which begins on June 15. This is a free, eight-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program, which means research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. NAMI-Rhode Island’s Family-to-Family course is taught by trained family members who have lived experience with a loved one, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises. RIBBA (Rhode Island Black Business Association) in partnership with the Institute of Economic Empowerment and Development are now accepting applications for their 2022 scholarship. Award amounts range from $500 to $1,000 for each student. To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must be a Rhode Island resident, identify as Black or Afro-Latinx, be a high school senior in the fall of 2022 and begin their freshmen year at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2023. Kids in grades K-5 are invited to join the Western Cranston Garden Club for a special outdoor program at 4 p.m. on June 8. They will start by reading garden stories followed by a gardening demonstration. Kids will then have the opportunity to plant a flower in the front library garden beds. Registration is required. In case of rain, this program will be rescheduled for June 15.
There will be a free Covid vaccine clinic on the front lawn of the Central Library in the James T. Giles Community Room on June 10 from noon to 2 p.m. First shots, second shots and boosters are available. Register on the library’s website.
This special story time on June 11 is intended for children ages 2-8 to attend with a caregiver. Join the Cranston Public Library as they celebrate the rainbow of different families and people in Cranston’s community. Wear your best rainbow-themed outfit and enjoy stories focusing on LGBTQ+ families. Finish off your celebration with a craft and a donut hole from Knead Donuts. Registration is required. St. Mary’s Feast Society Ladies’ Auxiliary will host their annual St. Mary’s Feast Society banquet on June 11 at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place at 15 Phenix Ave., Cranston. There will be a complete prime rib dinner; the cost is $45 per person. Contact Maria at 499-0796 for tickets.
Phillips Memorial Baptist Church will host a rummage sale on June 11 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is handicap accessible and there will be baked goods, handmade spring wreaths clothing, household items, shoes, linens, games, puzzles and more. The church is located at 565 Pontiac Ave.
Cranston Public Library invites the community to bring their unwanted electronics to the Central library on June 11 from 9 a.m. to noon for their e-waste recycling event. The IndiCycle van will be in the upper parking lot to help individuals dispose of unwanted electronics in an environmentally safe way.
Items accepted for free disposal include: computers, routers, monitors, TVs, laptops, mice, keyboards, cameras, printers, toner, wires/cables, batteries (no single use), microwaves; cell, cordless, and landline phones; stereo equipment, plastic speakers, CD/DVD players, gaming stations and other electronic gadgetry.
A $10 disposal fee is charged for: wooden speakers, laserjet printers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, mini fridges and other coolant containing appliances.
The following items are not accepted: lightbulbs, glass, broken TV tubes, smoke detectors, single use batteries, furniture, paint, plastic, paper/styrofoam and chemicals/aerosol cans.

EGAPL Heart of RI will hold a Pet fest on June 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 44 Worthington Road, Cranston. The organization will have small local businesses, the things they specialize in, raffles and a day of family fun for everyone. Proceeds will help Rhode Island small businesses as well as help EGAPL Heart of RI with continued rescue efforts.
Local author Bernadette Conte will be at Barnes and Noble for an author’s night at 6:30 p.m. on June 17. She will be there with her three books: “Eviva Maria, Madonna della Civita,” “Under the Pear Tree” and “Trauma at the Border.”
Come make slime outside at William Hall Library from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 28. This program is for kids grades K-5; the library will provide all of the ingredients and the recipe and you can have a blast making a mess with slime outdoors. Registration is required and opens May 31.
The YMCA will host its 2022 Race 4 Chase free triathlon program from July 5 to August 14. This is a six-week Monday through Friday program for individuals ages six to 12. Children will learn to run, bike and swim and make friends along the way. Fill out an application to be considered for the program (available at the YMCA’s front desk). The East Providence High School Class of 1972 will hold its 50th reunion on August 14 at the East Providence Yacht Club (9 Pier Road, East Providence). Applications opened May 1 for RISCA’s general Operating Support for Artists. The program provides grants of $6,000 for ] three consecutive years (totaling $18,000) for artists to work toward large, specific and self-identified goals in their art practice.

Join Garden City Center and Avvio Restaurant weekends this June for Garden City Sips in the gazebo for varietals from a rotating selection of vineyards, live music, games, floral photo ops and more. Garden City Sips will take place every Friday (June 3 to June 18) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The events will also take place on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. (live music from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sunday will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with live music from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On August 7, at 2 p.m., Flannel Polyester will present a “This Is Your Life” style show honoring the grand old lady of Rhode Island comedy, Grandma Martha. The event will take place at the Comedy Park, located inside the Historic Park Theater and Event Center.
A cavalcade of New England’s comedy greats, along with host Jay Burns, will look back on Martha’s life through laughs, jokes and just a couple of roasts.

Cranston Public Library announced this year’s Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the Cranston Department of Parks and Recreation. The concert series features eight performances, at the William Hall Library, beginning June 30. All concerts are free and open to the public and will take place on the William Hall Library front lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks to make the most of these free, family-friendly events. The Rhode Island Youth Theatre Summer Programs will have two summer programs at the Historic Park Theatre and Event Center. “The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition” is for ages 7 to 16 and will take July 25 through August 6. The Parks and Recreation summer camp will run from July 5 to August 12 and registration goes live at 7 a.m. on April 25. A Google Forms link will be posted on that day and time. No payment is necessary at the time of registration. Parks and Recreation will invoice you, which will serve as your confirmation for your child’s attendance.
