Providence firefighter faces DUI, other charges after motorcycle crash A Providence firefighter is facing several charges, including driving under the influence, following a weekend motorcycle accident in Cranston.
According to a statement from Cranston Police Maj. Todd Patalano, officers responded to a report of a motorcycle accident in the area of 485 Natick Ave. just after midnight on Sunday. At the scene, officers found a woman with non-life threatening injuries.
It was subsequently determined the woman had been a passenger on a motorcycle that struck a fire hydrant before leaving the area, leaving her behind.
Police “were able to immediately locate evidence that led them to Concord Avenue,” according to Patalano, and it is there that the motorcycle was located and stopped.
Its operator – identified as 39-year-old Joseph Bouchard, a resident of Concord Avenue – had “sustained serious injuries,” the statement reads. Both he and the female passenger were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Bouchard was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence and felony counts of duty to stop in an accident resulting in injury and driving to endanger resulting in physical injury. He was additionally cited for leaving the scene of an accident and leaving the lane of travel.
Bouchard was arraigned by a bail commissioner and is due to appear in Third Division District Court on the DUI charge. He is scheduled to appear in Sixth Division District Court on Nov. 16 regarding the felonies.
WJAR NBC 10 has reported Bouchard is currently on leave from the Providence Fire Department due to his injuries and is the subject of an internal investigation.
