“So You Want to Talk about Race,” the New York Times bestseller by Ijeoma Oluo, will be the subject for the “Join the Conversation” series at the Edgewood Congregational Church (1788 Broad St., Cranston) every Tuesday night for six weeks beginning at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28.

Participants may join the conversation in-person in the church’s Smith Room or via Zoom. The discussion will be led by Rev. Bill Sterrett and Merry Scarborough at an “easy reading pace.” The book can be checked out of local libraries and is available at local bookstores – print copies or e-books.

Oluo stated in his preface to the book: “After watching so many people have so many conversations about race that went nowhere,-or worse, that caused real harm- I wanted to create something of use. Something that would give readers the fundamentals of how race worked, not only in a way that they would take into their graduate race theory classes, but in a way that they would take to the office or to their Thanksgiving tables.”

If you need help securing a copy of the book, contact Edgewood Congregational Church at 461-1344.

To join in person, leave a message at the above number. To join on Zoom, use the following Zoom Meeting ID: 885 1525 6118. Passcode: 567635.

The event is sponsored by the Edgewood Congregational Church and is open to all.

“Wherever you are along life’s journey, you are welcome here,” said Rev. Sterrett. “Edgewood Congregational Church is always looking for ways to reach out to the community. As we celebrate Black History Month, conversations about race play an important part in our understanding of how we can be better human beings.”
