Republican Michael Farina says his interest in one day running for mayor took on a new dimension in 2018, as Mayor Allan Fung campaigned for governor. Had Fung won that race, Farina, as president of the City Council, would have assumed the mayor’s office.
Now, with the city set to elect a new chief executive for the first time in more than a decade, Farina says he believes his experience in business and city government makes him uniquely well qualified to lead Cranston.
“It’s going to be a stressful time for the next mayor,” he said. “The first six months on the job are not going to be for the faint of heart … It’s really going to be a lot of work, and I’m prepared for that work.”
